re: Rila hotel Borovets

We stayed there but it was 3 years ago now. However, we had nothing to complain about.

We had a room for 4, a double bed and 2 bunks for th kids which was warm and had a nice balcony overlooking the slopes. On occassion the bath water was a brown/murky colour due to high the mineral content but it was always hot. The safety deposit box is downstairs behind the reception desk and is very small so it was a case of leaving the camcorder etc in the room but nothing ever disappeared.

The food was good, buffet breakfast, cerial, toast, bacon, sausage, eggs, fruit all the usual stuff. The evening meal was also buffet and although the food was never piping hot (that's the Bulgarian way) there was always plenty to choose from; various meats, veg, potatoes, rice. I've seen some complaints about the food but we never once ate out as we found it to be OK.

The swimming pool was freezing and I believe this is still the case, however there are 2 hot tubs next to the pool which were brilliant, you can sit soaking away while you look out at the nursery slopes.

The bar area was a nice large open space but did get busy. I would make a point of getting your own drinks from the bar as the waitresses never have the "right" change or sometimes never bring any back at all.

The ski to door location of the hotel is great and I had no hesitation in recommending it to my friends when we got back. There were some people complaining about a few aspects which they felt could have been better but I've never been to a hotel where everybody is happy.

I'm sure you'll have a great time. Enjoy Booze

re: Rila hotel Borovets

we stayed there two years ago, all of the above I agree with, but I wouldn\'t bother with the hotel food. I think we managed 2 meals, but the standard was pretty poor, well, just cold mostly. I will eat most things but not there. The food in most of the bars and restaurants is pretty good though, and was reasonably priced, I hope it still is for our return in March (3rd year running). We have decided to go for the Iglika Villas this year as we are self catering. Good Luck.

I, like Cafu enoyed my stay at the Rila, food as well. It's not cordon bleu, but I'm sure you will find something you like. Every time I write about my stay at the Rila it brings back fond memories. Relax and enjoy the experiance.

re: Rila hotel Borovets

We have stayed at the Rila for the past 6 years and not had any complaints. The pool is cold, but the kids still swim I prefer the jacuzzi!! Food is ok usually hot but not very wide choice, bit samey by the end of the week. Rooms always exceptionally clean and warm with plenty of hot water. Enjoy!
