Four of us (two are first time skiers) are coming next month.
We need to decide between these two hotels.
Pls share the important differences between them.
The Rila is more expensive: is it worth that extra cost (300 euro)?

Hmm big issue...we are having the same debate, but with airtours rila is cheaper! From what I can gather the samokov used to be better than the rila, but the rila has been done up and is now better....general view is that the samokov is on its way down......
BUT I haven't been, its only the general idea I get from these great great people
Me and my family have stopped in the Rila studios the last two years , we find them very good. The rooms are basic but are cleaned daily with fresh towels supplied. The breakfast are OK and the evening meals are edible but only luke warm (so cheap to eat out ).The pool area is excellent, the bar/lounge is adequate but gets quite noisy at night. There is a night club downstairs which is not bad. I wouldn't hesitate in booking the Rila again.
Over the last 2 years i have stayed at both of the hotels and Georgina's comment is spot on, "The samokov used to be better than the rila, but the rila has been done up and is now better....general view is that the samokov is on its way down" Take it from me thats the way it is. However the Samokov is still a nice hotel but the Rila is better, Food is crap in both of them so eat at mamma mias ok. Anything else just ask or see me on the 31st. I will be in the Rila.
hi , just to let you know another opinion, i stayed at the samokov last week and i really enjoyed my stay ,
i thought the rooms were fine , a little basic mabey but clean , warm and comfy.
bathroom fine , the staff we great , the food was fine , buffet meal every day, could have been hotter at times .
the bar is ok , and the night club great . i would recommend the samokov to anybody.
only thing i know about the rila is the main bar which is very nice but if i were offerd the samakov ...

mr ski .
How about the location of the two hotels?
1. regarding distance from ski lifts - I suppose we must carry ski equipment.
2. distance from resort apre ski area - bars, resturants, etc
hi , the rila is right opposite the beginners slope and the 4 man chair lift ,the samokov is just behind it , only 5 mins walk ,
good thing about the samokov is its right opposite the gondola .
but both hotels are close to the slopes.
