I have booked Boro for Jan 08 and am thinking of trying Poiana Brasov (Romania) in Feb. Has anyone been there before and if so whats the snow conditions like and the place its- self. Would you recomend it.
I've skied many times in Borovets, with it's quaint charms. However, the hotels in Borovets can't compete against the standard of service offered by the hotels in the ANA chain used by some of the brit companies. Poiana, bradul and Sport.
The terrain at Poiana Brasov is varied but not as large as Borovets but certainly well worth a visit. as for the going back in time: parts of romania, along with parts of Bulgaria are stuck in time warps. Horses and carts for transport, people selling ...

Horses and carts for transport, people selling goods by the roadside, beggars, these are all part of the culture, but unlikely to be seen in Poina Brasov. (A popular destination for affluent Romanians at weekends.)
On the whole, Romania is a friendly country. it's also an easier language to learn, partly due to the latin roots and familiar alphabet.
Ski school at Ana hotels is very safety conscious with a big focus on enjoyment.
The ski area is well served by a couple of cable cars, gondola, and a variety of drag lifts.
Cantski we went three years ago had a good time but we where unlucky with the ski conditions very little snow and only one nursery slope open and this was more like a ice rink. we went in January the place was pretty not as many bars etc as borovets but well worth a visit just hope you get the conditions. The good thing is its easy enough to jump a bus to Brasnov and taxi back make sure you agree a fee with cab first, this city took me by surprise with chic shops and nice bars and ...

The Romanian people where very friendly and the food and culture very much alike Bulgaria.
Hope this helps and have fun
I remember a Cantski, years ago, it was dark, smokey, dire and forboding.....
We clutched our cigarettes, drew slowly, exhaled, he spoke first.... `Hi, Dave Cantski'
I replied `Hi, Steve C'
Then he was gone, disappearing through the smoke of Plovdivs smokers room.......
Never saw or heard from him again, sometimes when the moon is full and the mist falls, my mind wanders back to that time.................
