Hi
I'm driving from Sofia airport to Bansko next week.
Can anyone give me a detailed step-by-step route from the airport out to the road that leads to the Greek border - i.e. the junction with the cobbles and tram lines where you take a left. Once I get to this point I'll be fine. The first time I tried it the guy from the car hire firm escorted me to this point but I've tried it 3 times since and got lost each time. Hi

(Last time I ended up on the Plovdiv road with nowhere to turn round for miles and ended up going via Borovets - actually a lovely route if you've got time to spare!)
I've tried printing off and following detailed street maps from the net but I still get lost. My sense of direction is usually pretty good but this place just seems to scramble my brains and i find the sign posting very sketchy.
Alternatively is there a reliable Sat Nav system that I can get in the UK which will do the job for me?
Any help much appreciated.
Ok, i'll give it a go... This is the route we take out to the E79, not the shortest, but the best road surface.....
There are no signs anyway, and those that are there ignore...
Sat nav is a waste of time as it will take you through the centre, and you don't want to go there
Im assuming you will come into terminal 1 ??
Sooooooooo..
Depart term 1, head straight down the carriageway for approx 2km, take the first right filtering onto the E80 (inner ring road) and continue on ...

Depart term 1, head straight down the carriageway for approx 2km, take the first right filtering onto the E80 (inner ring road) and continue on down E80 carriageway for 1km approx taking the right filter exit after overhead sign to bring you down to a large roundabout. Take third exit and carry on up carriageway, through numerous traffic lights until last junction where you have to turn right or left. Turn left onto road (new surface) and stay on it till you are in site of a flyover (ringroad) and take right to take you up onto ringroad. Stay on ring road until you come to traffic lights at bottom of hill on Zsar Boris III just after passing slanting building that is a light shop. Turn left onto cobbles (though better to stay on inside as new tarmac surface... Stay on this road out through Sofia, onto Dragichevo and eventually E79 signposted Kulata... Easy init ??
Yoiks Steve, that's a bit complicated. Just head out from the airport for the first couple of kms (Brussels blvd), turn right onto the big road into town (Tsarigradsko shosse), follow it all the way to the lights at the end, turn left and drive all the way until the ringroad is in front of you on the flyover (Blvd Bulgaria), turn right and down to the cobbled street (that's Tsar Boris), turn left. You know the way from there.
