SHOPPING IN BOROVETS!!!

Hi There
Im going to Borovets on 5th March. What is the shopping like?
And after you have had your ski lesson are you able to just go off on your own and do your own thing?
I would like as much info as possible about Borovets and hotel MAURA.

Thanks Very Happy

re: SHOPPING IN BOROVETS!!!

shopping is ok, but most of the stuff is fake!!

you will have four hours skiing tutition a day, after which you can choose to knock it on the head for the day and head to the pub, or carry on skiing on your own. some intructors may stay out longer,. but as ours had a young family to get back home to, I could undertsand him sticking to the schedule!

I stayed at the moura in Jan of this year.

rooms are very warm, as is the water, are well equpied, albeit with fairly old stuff.

to be honest, the bathrooms could have done with modernisation (i.e. a few cracked tiles, toilet wouldn't always flush, shower drain blocked quickly so you couldn't stay in the shower too long.) but were bearable.

the hotel is well positioned, and is about a minute from the samokov, behind the happy duck. as it is not bang in the centre, it is quieter, save for those pesky dogs that barked at 4.30am on the dot for about an hour every day.

it is true that there is a playboy bar in the basement, but to be honest there are so many in borovets that wherever you stayed you would be close to one. the door to it is in the hotel bar, but to be honest I didn't notice it that much. I didn't get disturbed by the music from there either, but granted I was on the top floor!

the hotel bar is ace, cheap beer, friendly staff and a nice log fire.

all in all, it does not really compare to a three star hotel elsewhere, but it was fine and the accommodation certaintly didn't spoil our holiday. we had a great time, and although we probably won't return to bulgaria for some time as we like to try new places, we will probably go back one day.

have a great holiday, hope this answers all your questions. any more, just post them and I will try to answer as best I can!

re: SHOPPING IN BOROVETS!!!

Plenty of shops, but as Welsh boyo says, most designer items / CD's / PS games etc fake but cheap!

17 days to go!!!

re: SHOPPING IN BOROVETS!!!

Dont expect the high street but theres certainly plenty of bargains along the road, the locals are so friendly its nice to spend your money!
Go down the street towards the playboy club!!! there are a couple of good souvernier shops there(off the main road).
