The main task of the Bulgarian delegation is to promote the leading ski resorts in Bulgaria, Bansko and Borovets, which is part of the strategy for Bulgaria's candidature to host the Winter Olympics in 2014.
"The SportAccord 2006 convention is a perfect possibility to meet at the same time and place various professionals with big experience," said Otsetova.
"Bulgaria has a lot of things to learn about the organization of the European Biathlon Championship and the Women's European Cup races that will be held next year in Bansko as well as about Sofia's candidature to host the Winter Olympics in 2014," Otsetova said further.
Mario al Dzeburi hopes that Bulgaria will receive support and will get insight into the possibilities for development of winter sports in Sofia.
"We are confident that Bansko and Borovets will be the pillars of the development of Bulgarian tourism," said famous Bulgarian skier Petar Popangelov from Seoul for the Standart Daily.
"The resorts will become especially attractive for European skiers after Bulgaria joins the EU in 2007," Popangeov said further.
Meanwhile, it transpired that during the General Assembly of the National Olympic Committees, which was also held in Seoul, the President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee Stefka Kostadinova negotiated grants for 15 Bulgarian athletes for the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics.

Mmm, I'd heard about the plan for Sofia to bid for the 2014 Winter Olympics. As much as I love Borovets, the Sofians are going to have their work cut out to bring it up to the required standards.

Hopefully the IOC (or whatever the Winter equivalent is) will not perform an 'as is' assessment and will allow them to bid based on criteria to be met at some future date.

Maybe all this will give impetus to the Superborovets development (which didn't seem to have moved from what I could tell ...

Maybe all this will give impetus to the Superborovets development (which didn't seem to have moved from what I could tell this year).
