North Pole Weather Settles in Bulgaria
You would not need to go to the North Pole to feel what it is to be a polar bear. A week of frost and blizzards stretches out till Christmas, reports meteorologist Petar Yankov. The cold spell starts today. It will snow all over the country, the heaviest snow will fall in central Bulgaria. Snowdrifts will form in the eastern regions and drivers must be aware, Yankov warns. In some places temperatures will be as low as - 15°C which is by 5-8°C lower than the norm. It will be calm at the weekend but visibility range on the roads will be low. Skiers will have the opportunity to enjoy snowy ski runs but should be extremely careful because above 1800 metres the highest temperatures will be - 20°C and freezing is a real risk. It will get a bit warmer after next Thursday when highs will be about 1-2°C.
At Christmas Bulgaria will be veiled in dense fogs and travelling will be problematic, Yankov forecasts. On the other hand, it will neither snow nor rain and the weather will be calm and warm. Only along the Black Sea coast the clouds will be low and it will be frosty.
