Bulgaria's Chances for Winter Olympics Questioned

- Mr. Minev, how the preparation of the documents of Sofia's bid for hosting the Olympics in 2014 is going on?
- Well, we are in a state of red alert. A lot of things need final re-writing and others are waiting to be edited. Simultaneously, the documentation is translated into French and English, according to the IOC requirements. The time left before the deadline - January 29, must be best used. As it has been already made known, on Friday the Government approved of Sofia's bid. Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev will sign the letter to IOC on behalf of the Cabinet, this letter will be last document we will need. We will have to conduct a second express public opinion poll, the results of which will be included in the documentation for IOC. The first poll showed the bid is supported by 70% of the Bulgarians.
- What will be the state's financial support for the Olympics?
- If Sofia's application goes to the second round, this will mean paying a guarantee of US$500 000 to IOC that will not be restored.
- How will you dispel concerns about the construction works necessary of the Olympics will be held in Sofia?
- The terrains of the Olympic villages will be state, municipal or private property. If they are private property, their owners will be able to either sell them or participate as shareholders in the company because after the Games, the buildings will be theirs. The other variant is construction tenders to be announced. In this case each of the construction developers will be interested in the building of an Olympic village.
