Landslide Blocks Road to Borovets
A landslide blocked the road, connecting Sofia with the southern town of Samokov and the Borovets winter resort.
The two-lane stretch by the village of Kokalyane, which is the only passage through the area, was covered by masses of soil and stones around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday. The emergency teams of the Road Agency spent the entire night digging through the 3,000 cubic meters of rock in order to clear the way, but had not yet finished the job by the late hours last night. Geologists suggest that the landslide must be given time to settle by itself, which could take up to 2 or 3 days. By then vehicles will have to make a detour through Bistritsa.
