In my opinion, Bulgaria is still the best value option. We are stuck with school holidays because of my job - and nowhere else can touch it for Feb half term prices. This isn't just getting there and accommodation - check out the prices for equipment hire and tuition elsewhere.
We've booked France for New Year 2008/9 and altogether have paid twice as much as we have for PampsFeb 2009. We've also been told to expect outrageous prices on the slopes, so to consider taking packed lunches ...

Apart from 2007, when the snow was poor all over Europe, the skiing mid-Feb has been brilliant. Even last year, we managed to ski every day at the top.
... and NO I don't have any interest in property out there!
I would have to slightly disagree. I think in the past bulgaria would have been by far the cheaper option but with prices increseing every year, it is nearly as expensive.
You cannot compare the price you paid in france for new year to bulgaria over half term. France over new years is the most expensive week of the year, the prices increases for this particular week are absolutely crazy. However i went to france second weeek of jan this year and bulgaria first week of march and my holidays ...

However i went to france second weeek of jan this year and bulgaria first week of march and my holidays cost the same money, all in including what i spent during the week. That is just my own personal experience and i think the Alps has some great deals if you can fins them
I agree if you can look for the deals France is as cheap for accommodation as bulgaria, but in school hols they do increase the prices big time not just for accommodation, but they have high and low season ski pass and ski hire charges, the hols come under high season and it can make a huge difference.
Steve - lift passes in Bulgaria cost the same over the UK school hols and I think, from what I've read on here, prices in resort don't change either. The cost of lift passes in France varies and they really hike them up for the school hols.
As for comparing like for like, I did price Feb half term week in France because we really wanted guaranteed good snow conditions, but it was going to be almost twice as much by the time we'd costed all the extras.
Thats good they don't change the prices in bulgaria over the season beacause they do it alot in france, i had heard they do it for mid-term also so you've just confirmed that.Hope you get good ski conditions over new year, went once myself at the same time and we were lucky with the snow and the new year celebratiosn were great
