Havent stayed there myself recently but the people we ski with have stayed there every year for last five years and are going back again. Only reason we changed to the Rila was because it was a bit more lively
Returned from Samakov on 20/1 having stayed there last year too. It is basicly a sound hotel with fairly good facilities. We have always found the food of an acceptable standard and not too bad a choice in the evenings. The rooms are basic and the plumbing, especially bath and sink, tend to leak. The rooms are always made up daily though and hoovered throughout. We will probably book there again next year if thats any help.
Have a great time.

The Samokov is a good hotel. To be truthful it is a bit dated but is ideally situated (in my opinion in a better location than even the Rila (closer to the Gondola and you walk down hill at the end of the day!). They do pancakes in reception - to die for.
Don't panic about the food, we found it acceptable but as we could eat out for only a few pounds we tended to do that.
The full body massage is the best I've had (only cost about £10 per hour!).

If I ever go back to Borovets I would definately book it again.
