re: Samakov

you wont get much shopping in the evening, however there are some great restaurants in Samakov, and its CHEAP, not resort prices. The offys will set you back about 7-10 lev for a liter of vodka, smirnoff comes in about 12-15 lev/liter. Get someone to give you directions/contacts for the'Old House' traditional food, Tai Pan chineese, or just take your chance and pop in. Just be aware some of the restaurants dont have english menus. re: Samakov

Samokov is not comercialised yet I am afraid!!! It will be very traditional surroundings unless its an organised trip and you are going to a development just outside.
We have a house about 10km outside Samokove and we found no shop worth visiting yet.
We are new at this, and only been to Somokov 4 times and drive around it regularly on my way to Sofia.

Sorry for bad news.

Martin.

re: Samakov

Very Happy martin suggest you try again.....we found 90% of our furniture in Samakov, are getting our curtains made there, ordered all our bedding there, and also bought some of the electrical stuff there. The prices are better than sofia most of the time. There has been a lot of development there in the years ive been going, some smart bars and restaurants now as well, might be worth you doing a bit more exploring Razz

So Del Boy,

I think Samokov is worth a visit, not only for a good diner in the Starata Kaschta (Old House) or the Goljam Schechmata. A good idea to visit is the coppersmith near the centre, and look for the work and have a nice travel present the small kettles for make coffee or tea, or better in the winter hot rakia. They are called Dscheswe. You can have a short walk over the market with his huts for everyday things or some shops with fine bulgarian cheese, f.e. from buffel milk ... ...
