Samokov Town

Does anyone know if there is a regular bus service to borovets from Samakov town. Also has anyone not done the package tour/hotel option and gone independently staying in a rented house or apartment in Samakov and bused to the slopes every day, as its only a 10-15 min drive away?

Hi Wellsie
Have you bought your own place out there or were you renting? I ask because I was in Sophia at the begining of the year and drove out to Borevets looking at property in the surrounding villages and towns. Samokov seemed ideal to me. I was very tempted by some houses but would like to be able to rent out the property when I am not using it myself. Do you know if this is something that is done around there, and do many people opt for this type of accommodation or is the drive to ...

re: Samokov Town

The bus is driving every half hour, from opposit the Samokov hotel to the busstation in Samokov town, from 6 or 7 in morning to 19.00. It cost 1,20 lev per way. And Samokov isn't as ugly as it seems. I stayed there two times and the hotel was fine. Eating and drinking is much cheaper as in Borovez. And what do you in Borovez later the evening eating and drinking, try to dance in Buzz Bar the same you can doin Samokov....

Thanks for all the feed back. I did think samakov was a bit ugly but that is something you get used to. Its just a bit of a suprise at first as it is a big contrast to western europe. But I found the ugliness is no reflection on the type of people who live there. Areas that are ugly in the UK are generally full of undesirable types. This is not so in Bulgaria I found. Also when there there was no snow I think the presence of snow in winter and greenery in summer does a lot to make Samakov ...

Also when there there was no snow I think the presence of snow in winter and greenery in summer does a lot to make Samakov prettier looking. I think samakov will develop rapidly particularily if this Super Borevets project goes ahead. When I was there there didnt seem to be anything happening. Is it on hold or is it just hype. A bulgarian bloke told me it might not go ahead or be delayed for years due to all the organisations involved not being able to agree with each other. What does everyone else think? Anyone have any insider knowledge they would like to share?
