Scary lifts

I really enjoyed my first time skiing in Bulgaria in March.

But I bricked it on the gondola and the chair lifts. The single man chairlift especially (when it stopped, leaving you dangling 60ft in the air, locked in death's grim gaze). Are these lifts older or more dangerous than usual, whats the odds of copping it and how do you keep your mind off the scenario of it creaking then dropping to your doom?

PS the glass is half empty

re: Scary lifts

Believe it or not they're just something you get used too (sort of). I understand that the lifts in Bulgaria are fairly new and have to say that most chair lifts are fairly similar wherever you go.

The things to remember are to look out, not down and that when it stops it's usually because someone has fallen off at the end or an injured person is being loaded on.

I do agree that one very sheer bit of the gondola was quite un-nerving though.

re: Scary lifts

They've worked FINE for many, many years Very Happy without a major problem causing death or injury due to malfunction that I am aware of.
Do you remember the tragic incident in the Italian Alps with the US Military Plane? As you can see accidents can happen at any time on any lift and I don't feel that the older single chair lifts are any more dangerous than the other.
The most dangerous part of skiing or riding is going down the hill, not coming up... Very Happy
