I reckon they are great for tricks and "hot dogging" on the slopes but you wouldn't really want to generate too much speed on them down a steep run as they don't feel very secure or stable which is why people usually end up eating snow (make sure you have a helmet). On the other hand, they are really good at testing you balance for when you ski "normal" length ski's.
I have a pair oh Head Big Easy 94s (94cm), I have skiied with big foots before and these do feel like two short pieces of MDF glued to your foot, however the Head's have releasable bindings and a viewed to be more safe. If they're cheap though, you may want to get them and spend half a day/day on them (makesure it's the last day though).
i bought a pair of blades last year, they were the only reason i could remain upright. I had a terrible problem of crossing my tips on normal ski's and spending most of my time eating the snow instead of skiing it.
I converted to blading 3 years ago from skiing for 16 years. I think they are BRIL!!!!. I can do 360 spins ski backwards and use the half pipe better. If you are a confident and good skier you can reach speeds of normal skiers. The area that they are bad is snow push in a lump and DEF do not go off piste. You have to skick with the fat boys for those. The blacks and double diamond blacks are easier to tackle too. We even ended up doing 360's on those. In Bansko with the family on 23rd Dec ...

Here one for the bladers out there. If you can 360 how many linked ones can you do. My record is 33, however felt sick as a dog after for about an hour .
After those coments don't think i'll buy ,think i might just rent for a day to see how they go.
Can do 360's but get very disey afet about 3 ,love off piste just for hard ship so if thye are't any use for that i'll leave it thanks for comments.
I've been using blades for about 5 years now and have changed the model every year, I'm now on the Salomon minimax and they are by far the best blades out at the moment. the longer they are the more stable they'll be - I've moved from the 65cm bigfoot to Minverse and tried the Head's in Canada this year and none come anywhere as close as the full size Salomon Minimax for stability and speed.

I wouldn't worry too much about the releasable bindings as with blades you tend just lay over if things are getting hairy or pull up real fast ( the best bit about blades is the ability to turn and stop within a few feet) The coolest thing with blades is your ability to out turn everyone which means you'll get to the bottom of the steeper slopes before skiers --try them and you'll not go back to skis.
