Should skis come off

As a beginner I have a question for you experts out there, apart from Pamps in Bulgaria how are boots properly fitted (i.e. is weight important) and as a beginner should the bindings be adjusted to make the skis come off easily if you fall, particularly forward.

Thanks in advance for your help.

re: Should skis come off

Weight is not important for boots - only for skis. When I bought my boots, they made me take of socks and shoes and from the shape of my foot, they could tell which make of boot would be best for me - I can honestly say, they were so right... The first pair they took off the shelf fitted like a slipper. Tried others on, but they were not comfortable.

Your bindings on skis should be adjusted to your height, weight and ski ability. There is a chart of DIN settings, and if you search on ...

re: Should skis come off

just be careful they don't give you skis which are too long as a beginner you should have shorter skis than your height.

A few years ago one of my ski's came off while skiing in Borovets.

The group was “shushing” (racing stance) on a nice Red, which has a small turn followed by narrow bridge at the bottom of it. The bridge is fairly narrow and has no walls or fences at the sides or on it. You have to carry the speed to enable you to get up the hill on the other side.

As I approached the bridge, I started to make the turn and one of my ski’s parted company. Basically this meant I could NOT make the turn and therefore missed the bridge…

Luckily I missed all of the trees and the snow was deep enough to stop me making it all the way to the river.

The most annoying bit was I then had to walk all the way up the slope the other side of the bridge…
