I know this has been a leg-pull topic for many years on here - but this year it is actually happening.
A team of ski Police will patrol the slopes looking out for dangerous skiers and boarders, and skiers and boarders who appear to be the worst for wear due to alcohol.
Not sure what they will do when challenging people but they will certainly be there.
Bulgarian authorities will be addressing the dangers of drunk-skiing by targeting British tourists with a special information campaign, Bulgarian media reported on December 13.
With the start of the 2010/11 winter season, about 300, 000 British tourists were expected to descend upon Bulgaria's winter resorts. Some see no danger in mixing skiing with alcohol intake, which in the winter, up the mountain is particularly dangerous.

Here is the report in this weeks Sofia Echo.

With the start of the 2010/11 winter season, about 300, 000 British tourists were expected to descend upon Bulgaria's winter resorts. Some see no danger in mixing skiing with alcohol intake, which in the winter, up the mountain is particularly dangerous.
The issue would be tackled together with the British Embassy in Sofia, which has worked on a campaign to be implemented with the help of Bulgarian authorities, Bulgarian news agency Focus said.
The campaign was discussed at a meeting between British ambassador to Bulgaria Steve Williams and Interior Ministry officials on December 13, the agency said. The campaign would aim to raise awareness among tourists of the dangers involved when skiing under the influence.
In related news, the Interior Ministry said that it would post police officers speaking at least two foreign languages in winter resorts, with an additional emphasis on hotels, restaurants and ski slopes, to "improve communication" with foreign tourists.
Must be down to the huge number of deaths and injuries sustained by British holiday makers over the years. I'd love to see the statistics or is this just an excuse to bring bribery and corruption to the slopes.
Slippery slope (pun ??) im afraid, the next will be the compulsory wearing of helmets, then armour, then one way skiing down taped off slopes, speed limiters, speed humps, eventually ending in the sport being banned
One consideration regarding alcohol, you can't bloody afford to get drunk on the mountain, so whats the problem ???

The supposed ski police will be in all resorts this winter, the bulk of their work will be what they may deem `dangerous skiing/boarding', warnings will be issued, and maybe they will be heeded, perhaps there is a need, but what do you consider dangerous ?? it maybe to some, but not to others ?? like i said, slippery slope
Well Steve, hopefully they will realize the difference between skiing fast and skiing dangerous. (Same for boarding.) There is a big difference between the 2 and I can only hope that common sense prevails.
Hopefully Pete, god forbid it goes the way of the States and parts of the Alps...
Looks like we are in for a `white one' which will be nice, especially for Jess
Merry Christmas to you and Angie, go steady on the brandy, try to save a bit for when you are over, hopefully we'll nip across and meet up in Feb
