Ski School - Borosport or Hunters?

Hi, I just want some opinions please. 3 of us traveling out on 13th February and I am just trying to book ski lessons, hire and lift passes.

I am torn between Borosports or Hunters. Hunters are about £80 more than Borosports so I thought I would see what others opinions are. Are they worth the extra? Are the group sizes smaller? What would you do?

Thanks in advance.

I've used Borosport once (on my first visit to Borovets because I didn't know any better) and Hunters 3 times since.

Definitely worth the extra money for the better quality equipment, service and tuition. I do have a few minor grumbles about the latter, but everything considered Hunters is head and shoulders above Borosport and I will be booking with them again for 2014.

thanks very much for your input greenfrogfrolics, good to hear from someone who has used both. What are the minor issues with tuition?

Oh, it's really just me being petty! I have been happy enough with the tuition in previous years, and for the first 2 days last week it was great and Toni helped me a lot. Then some much more advanced skiers joined the group and because I was trailing way behind them I lost confidence. The next day I was moved down a group which was much better for me but I got very little help from the instructor unless I asked for it.

Every afternoon I went off and either skied with friends or rested, and I got the impression the instructor wasn't very bothered about me and my skiing because I wasn't totally involved in his group. I'm probably wrong and being a bit oversensitive but that's how I felt.

On the last day I was really having problems with my turns, despite doing pretty well earlier in the week. The instructor was leading the group down the runs and they were having to wait for me all the time, yet he offered very little help or advice even though he could see I was struggling. A couple of times I did ask for help, and he said a few words about shoulder, bend the knees, plant stick, etc. But I just felt he could have helped me more.

So that's it. Looking back I see it's mostly about me and my problems! But it won't stop me booking with Hunters again next year.

We've just got back from an amazing week. We booked ski passes n lessons for 2 families with Hunters. Actually worked out cheaper than borosport and the instructors we had were fantastic. Also our group size was tiny. A couple of people dipped in and out throughout the week but there was never more than 5 in each group. Saw lots of borosport groups which all the tour operators use and there was at least 10 in the groups. So would recommend hunters all the way.

I have skied once(my first time skiing) with the Samokov ski school who operate in a similar way to Borovets, as far as I know. There were at least 12 in the group. I might have had 5 times where the instructor told me what I was doing wrong the whole week. The next year I was at Arinsal, Andorra. This was the same number of people in the group and the lesson was exactly fro 0900 to 1200hrs. The instructor never spoke to anyone individually.

The year next two years I was with Hunters at Borovets. The first year there were 4 in the group and this year there were two. Hunters were better. The main problem was me. I could just not put into practice all I was told. It may have helped if I had gone to the Snowdome in England between trips. I was however better this year than last year.
It would only cost about £30.00 more extra going with Hunters rather than Borosport, as I do a DIY trip. In other words I get my flight, hotel, transfer and ski package seperately. The difference in price may depend on the number in your group, whether you book your week as a package or DIY trip.

I know I am like a walking advert for Hunters but Stefan and the team have never let us down. We have had cause to raise a couple of minor niggles but they've always been sorted with no problem. I can't speak for Borosport as they have so many instructors that there are bound to be good and bad ones but from what I have seen unless you are in a small advanced group or having private lessons then group sizes can be pretty large and it's always going to be difficult to get individual ...
