Can anyone advise if they have been to other countries that have very good ski schools ( that start a little later) so you can rock up bout 11or so ( nice to enjoy night out ) ski school for few hours then be free for afternoon to meet friends and ski with them .....

re: Ski School Advice !!

Most people who go skiing for just a week can't wait to get to the slopes and ski. To turn up at 11am would be to miss so much of the day. So - you want to start at 11am - then have lunch - then ski with your friends in the afternoon. Am I missing something here, or does that leave no time for actual lessons.

My advice would be to form your own group and get your own instructor. As long as you pay them they will instruct you whenever it pleases you.

Jackie,
Busses run from 8.30am until 10am. Taxis from then on will take you from the main hotel area to the slopes for 17 levs. (Shared between 4 that's just about £1.50p each.) The busses return up until 5pm so you can ski until the last lifts close at 4.30pm and still get the last bus back.

As I said, you could arrange your own instructor. Usually there are one or two without classes each week for the very reasons you mentioned.

3 years ago, we skied with Marco who was then head of ski school for 4 days. He charged us just £50 and we started, stopped for lunch and finished each day whenever we wanted.

Maybe that would be an idea for you.

re: Ski School Advice !!

Just got back from pamps. Took lessons with Interski as the conditions weren't that great so figured I would work on my turns. The equipment rental and lessons were brilliant. Even though I have skiied for many years the instructor (Kiro) was able to break down my turn and really get to the nitty gritty of my skiing. (I went to pamps with my fiance who is newish to the sport. He had boarding lessons through the main ski school for three days. I am sure he will post his experience ...
I am sure he will post his experience separately.) At interski you can book your lessons for whenever you want and for how long you want. I would certainly recommend staying on the slopes during the lunch time as that is when the queues are the shortest (and the end of the day). I booked day by day based on the conditions and on my fiance's movement. Talk to them when you arrive and they will be able to tell you the availability. They have 10 instructors. I am sure they are all very good. Nice friendly atmosphere in the office. I only booked two hours before I got there but ended up with three sessions of two hours each. The snow was quite soft by 11 so I agree with Pete. Take the last bus (10:15 ish) if that floats your boat and get on and stay on the slopes through lunch. Let me know if you have any more questions. Have fun.
