I am not going with a tour operator and thus need to sort one out myself. We have never been skiing before so don't know what to expect. I have been on a website called banskoski which has prices etc but I don't know how to book it as you cannot contact them. Also, I don't know the group size limit or anything about the school.
Listen, I forgot to say, I don't know what Ski school you were trying to contact but from their lack of response it was probably the ones that are part of the slopes (Ulen). I hate to speak badly about anyone but I don't want to see you having a bad experience on holiday. They are not very good at all. I live out here and have heard so may horror stories from tourists about their lessons with Ulen. Instructors turning up drunk to lessons, no patience with children, group lessons of up to 25 ...

I hope not to offend anyone with these comments but I have been so shocked this season with the amount of people that have spoken to me about their bad experiences from this company. They really need to improve their standards both in the ski school and on the slopes if Bansko is to grow into the super resort it could be!!
We had ski school for 1st 3 years skiing with ulen and they were FANTASTIC!!!! Still bump into one of them on the slopes who stops to chat and gives us a few free tips on technique. Eldest son had lessons for first time this year and was only in group of 8. Never seen a group of 25 over last 6 years skiing there. The only part we found a problem was the ski kit hire - with chaotic organisation.
I am pleased to hear from someone who has had a good experience as that's one of the first. I was beginning to get worried that this company could be Bansko's downfall, and all us investors in the area could be in trouble.
Have you had lessons in other European resorts to compare your experience / techniques with, as that is what many people will be doing?

Hi Julie,
I am pleased to hear from someone who has had a good experience as that's one of the first. I was beginning to get worried that this company could be Bansko's downfall, and all us investors in the area could be in trouble.

For some reason though this forum administrator removed my previous email about the fabulous experience both I and many others have had with a snow school called Method!! Now that's world class instructing and with a smile!!!
I hope Ulen keep striving to improve though and to make the slopes as pleasant a place to be as other more popular destinations (that means stop laughing at people who fall off drag lifts, stop charging for services like toilets and car parks that are free to Bulgarians and not to anyone else and bloody well prepare the entrances and exits to lifts, sheet ice is dangerous!!)
Hi, thanks for all the replies. We have now booked with Method, Ash was really heplful and they were also recommended by a friend. Will be going to Bansko tomorrow so will let you know how we get on.
