Just booked a weeks ski trip to Borovets on 22nd March 09 going along with a good deal, just came to me now that it is quite near the end of the season, just like to hear on your thoughts on possible/typical snow conditions for that period,
James..
Last season was quite rough, at the time you are asking about the bottom half of the mountain was closed due to lack of snow, but skiing on top was still good. In the laps of the gods really, but chances are you will be ok....
I was there 1st week of march and as steve c put it, it was quite rough. Lower slopes were bad, with most closed. Snow up top was good but gondola was closed 3 out of my 6 skiing days so it couldn't be accessed. When gondola was working, couldnt ski back to resort as slope closed so had to que at gondola to get back down.
You never know though, we were unlucky, this winter could be a very different story and i hope it is
But the end of march last season was incredible!! There was an amazing late dump of 50 cms that kept us busy for a final 2 weeks of first class powder on empty pistes before it suddenly went up to 11 degrees and that was that. End of season is often the best time in Bulgaria.
By the end of the month and into April it was probably the best time of the season with no queues and plenty white stuff.
problem is that if you plan your trip well in advance you could end up doing patrially water skiing on top use 2-3 kilos of wax and as much suncream from the highest factors there is.
it has been seen some seasons finishing earlier that your trip but you can always do some prays for snow.
Good luck!
Does anyone know when the season starts. Looking to get out to Borovets in Dec and hopefully get some ski in. Would be good if the season falls within this visit
Ski season with Balkan Holidays for Bulgaria starts in December through to March/April, December/January tends to get the busiest crowds after the fresh snow fall, hope this helps.
