Ski lifts in Bansko

Hi,

I'm going to Bansko in a week and just had a quick question for those who've been there before. Is it better / cheaper to buy the ski pass online (prior to the trip) or on the first day of arrival (by the gondola)? Is there a big difference in cost?

Thanks in advance!

i dont think its any cheaper online. dont know how they go about taking your picture either if you buy online. this year i have heard the gondola station is staying open longer on an evening to allow people to buy their passes the night before. dont know till what time but that is really good for those wanting to avoid the carnage first thing in the morning

re: Ski lifts in Bansko

big debate on this subject on another forum for Bansko....

there is not alot of difference in price either way buying at the gondola office or buying through someone like me online(online slightly cheaper) but consider this

at the gondola office the pass you buy will have mountain rescue insurance,if you buy a 6 day pass which we can get (called a tour operator pass) then there is no built in mountain rescue insurance..the advice we are given by the company we use to order and deliver ...

we tell our clients this...some go ahead and order through us because they like the idea of not having to queue for the pass and they get it delivered to them or have it ready for them at our shop.....others do not go for this and rather go to the gondola office and buy from there direct...
the 6 day tour operator pass that we order for clients does not need a photograph....

i do remember a few years back that you could emaila photograph to ski shops and they could go over to get the ski pass for you at the office which would have the mountain rescue insurance, but im not sure if thats the case now...steve or wendy may know Question

That was the case, but not sure now, i have heard that some ski shops are selling passes anyway?
The issue with pre-booked passes is not so difficult, the mountain rescue will ask for an insurance number if they discover you have a pre-booked pass, simply note your policy number and issuer, or better carry the card some insurers supply now with your details.
You are definately covered with even the most basic holiday insurance. Consider though that you will not be covered if ...

re: Ski lifts in Bansko

well i think if we can get proper clarification on the pre booked passes regarding insurance then it would stop alot of the scaremongering on the Bansko forum...don't you think?

re: Ski lifts in Bansko

Tour operators passes are as the name suggests sold through tour operators, who suggest to their clients that they have to have holiday insurance, ski holiday insurance, and hopefully theirs Wink
It would then seem logical that anyone who has purchased a tour operator pass who buys ski holiday insurance would be covered in the same way as a tour operator guest... `e' voila....
As for scaremongering ??? where ??? and as for clarification, Ulen will say that if you have a tour operator pass ...

As for scaremongering ??? where ??? and as for clarification, Ulen will say that if you have a tour operator pass you will need mountain insurance (they want to sell theirs 12lv a week) but our experience with guests who have had incidents is that general ski holiday insurance is quite adequate, just carry the info in your pocket in case of emergency...
The mountain rescue is funded through claiming on insurance for every rescue performed, it is not funded by Ulen...
