My son fell again on the dry slope a fortnight after his previous fall. He has concussed himself for a second time and he was wearing a helmet both times.
The doctor has said he may not be fit to ski on the 18th Feb. He has been banned from skiing the dry slope until then anyway.
Has anyone had any experience of concussions and how long they take to heal?
It's the kids first trip & they will be very disappointed if we can't go.
He must be a proper nutter, or is very prone to concussions. The latter would probably have been detected by doctor though. Snow is softer than dry slopes generally though.
Hi Jackie, how old is he ? My 11 yr old son got concussion last summer playing on his trampoline and he was back at school the next day. Had a black eye and swollen nose for a week though. So I think he will be OK, was he boarding or skiing ? Where are you flying from and where are you staying ?
concusion dosnt usually last that long a couple of days, don't know why your doc has he may not be fit to ski, should be fine just keep him off the dry slopes and make sure if he wants to dive head first on the slopes he hits the soft snow!!
in nearly all contact sports where the head may be used or hurt like football and rugby they have a mandatory period where the player is unable to play which is 21 days. it's to make sure there are no adverse affects on the player and to ensure there head is given time to recover. it takes longer than a day to recover from concussion believe me, had it a few times playing rugby. as long as he stays clear of bumps between now and the 18th then he should be fine:-)
Never use Dry Slopes would be my advice for the future! Get to a snowdome, or wait till you go ski-ing - there's no substitute, and dry slopes hurt all over!
I hope that he will be OK, he has just been into hospital overnight to be observed. He also had a CAT scan which came out clear, but he still has a headache 18 days after the first accident and 4 days after the second one.
He fell quite spectacularly and rolled over 3 times banging his head as he went.
Doc has banned him from the dry slope and any strenuous activity for at least 3 weeks.
He's 9 by the way, and sorry for not responding to your questions earlier. We were in hospital.
