Got back in the early hours this morning 12th Feb 2006 due to having a 7 hour coach journey to an airport in Burgus {think thats how they spell it } due to imaginary fog at Sofia airport meant plane could not either land or take off .Anyway , i thought the slopes were good for beginners and from what i saw the ski school was very good.
Although there was good snow fall , the pistes wear very quickly.

The hotel that we stayed in was the Rila where the rooms were quite adequate.
Now for the bad points !
We were in the studios adjacent to the shops so it wasnt possible to get a decent nights sleep which is not good if you have young children,
The food was absolute garbage so bring plenty of money if you are going because you will not eat whats put in front of you .It is also cold ,
Everywhere you go there is some punter trying to get you in there resturant .Believe me they have an easy job enticing clients from the Rila's resturant.
The staff who work in the ski hire shop are very rude and do not like people asking to change boots .Its funny how they become nice when it gets closer to saturday when they want tipping ?
Do yourself a favour if you are looking for a family ski holiday ,do not stay at the Rila .Better still go to France .
love the rila as do my children who enjoy the food as they arent fussy on the whole and understand that bulgarian food is served lukewarm how they eat it
not had the problems you have had so shame you had a bad time we enjoy and continue to return
hire shop staff couldnt have been more helpful when my daughter had some problems and got seperated from her class they looked after her and gave her a drink and warmed her up
Thought the food in the Rila was pretty decent too.
And i changed my ski boots about 4 times this year and the staff were friendly and helpful from day 1.
I don't think i was lucky, the complimets about the rila and staff far out way the negative comments...maybe you were just unlucky?
I think that when you use a resurant on a regular basis and then you recieve one bad meal you class that as being unlucky. We tried the Rila on more than one occasion and could not eat what was in front of us.It was not just our family that had the same problem.I will say in the Rila's favour that the breakfast was good for a ski resort and i did eat everyday.Pherhaps if we had stayed on the other side ,away from the main drag it might have been quieter.
maybe you went on a bad week as everytime we are there then some food is ate in the rila twice a day.
depends maybe where you live for the noise
our hotel room is always at the front of the rila and no problems with noise but then my kids spend alot of nights in a city so its loud noise then and we live in the country so some of out family from the city cant sleep as its quiet
ho there,
Lots of delays and diversions from Sopfia on Saturday.
No fog, ice or snow, as we flew out to Birmingham 2hours late. No information offered as to why!
Hubby guessed that monarch had not paid their fuel bill in Sofia!
