Can anyone clarify the meaning of 'skiing alone' in the context of Moutain saftey (as in the article on this website). As an independent skier - on piste (with hundreds of other skiers on piste at the same time) presumably I would not be skiing alone and will be 'fairly safe'. As I see it this .' most basic moutain saftey' rule must refer to off piste skiing - if you are skiing idependantly ' on your own ' with no one else around.
Would have to agree 100%. I guess if you wipe out badly on a marked run, there will be plenty of people around to come to your aid, however, in the middle of the off-piste no where, you could be alone and not found for hours/days/at all.
Basically, don't go off-piste alone - not worth the potential risk
