Skiing in Bansko end March early April

I posted a couple of days ago and cannot seem to find the post now..this forum is really busy at the mo.

I was originally asking about skiing in Bansko at the end of March/early April and was surprised by the answers which were mainly negative.

I am planning on going to Bansko very late in the season and really want to know when the gondola and left service offically stops. I remember reading somewhere that Bansko has 50 canons and the season is one of the longest around because of the altitude and canons.

I am happy to take my chances with the weather, no choice there, however, if I am going to go to all of the trouble and expense of paying for my family to go on holiday to Bansko I need to know that the lifts and canons will be working ect. ect.

Hi Neil,

yes I am looking forward to the warmer weather, there is something special about skiing in a t shirt and sunglasses. I just need to b really sure about the lift service before spending ££ to get over there.

I was in Bansko mid December when there was plently of snow on the mountain but the lift service was not even running a partial service until the official opening which was on the 16th Dec.

Hi Pete,

How do the now canons fit into this then?

surely the point of the canons is to suport the snow that is already there and allow the resort to extend the ski season

re: Skiing in Bansko end March early April

On the Banskoski web site:

http://www.banskoski.com/suorugenia.xhtml.en

it actually says "Snow is guaranteed from December until May by 40 TechnoAlpin snow cannons"

is this true?

does anyone know?

most of the replies to my original question, although helpful, do not really help me

I want to book this trip to Bansko, but need to know when the resort closes.

Brad what we are saying is you book at you own risk. Last year Bansko was skiing into May, but that was a fantastic year for snow. The temeptures have to be low for the cannons to work so if it gets warm they will not be working.

Hi Daniel,

I understand the weather part - no problem! I am happy to take my chances there. I just need to be sure that the actual lifts will be working if the conditions are ok. I was in Bansko in December when there was plenty of snow up in the mountains but the lifts were not working then because the official season did not start until the 16th December!.

The details on the Banskoski web site are reasuring with a quoted "guaranteed" season until May, partly because of the canons. I just have a feeling that the lift company will do what suits them at the time, regardless of the conditions on the mountain and the lines of people waiting at the gondola base station.

Ideally I supose I should wait until nearer the time but this is tricky because the flight availability and prices go up if we try to book with afew days notice, and I have to book holiday in advance with my employer....
