Skiing in Bansko

Hi everyone,
First post here although we've been to Pamps a few years back. Heading out to Bansko with my ex(?!) on the 24th & just looking for a few hints & tips.
What are the red runs like? The last couple of years I've been hitting the reds & even ventured onto my first black last year but I'm not really a fan of anything too steep.
What's the ski school like for intermediates? It's been a couple of years since we had any lessons so we've decided to take ...

What's the ski school like for intermediates? It's been a couple of years since we had any lessons so we've decided to take another block & brush up on our technique.
Any other general advice on the place also appreciated.

Regards,

Bill

re: Skiing in Bansko

Firstly the ski school is of a reasonable standard, though like anywhere you could land up with a miserable instructor, if it happens that you are not happy, complain...
The private schools are more expensive, but perhaps more customer friendly...

The reds here can be stiff, especially if a little icey, or filled with moguls. There are a couple of long reds (4 and 6) refer http://www.banskoski.com/bansko_map_en.html ...

The main black run is Tomba (9), very long, but actually not that difficult unless its icey. A better black is at Challin Valog (16), a real black, quite short but v steep... gives you quite a buzz when you swing round to look back up it after coming down... Also the black section into red 15, thats interesting as well...
Anyway, enjoy your time with the ex ????? good friends ????? just being nosey hehehehehe

I think Bansko is excellent for intermediates as there is always one slope that bit more difficult.
Don't think its as good for more advanced skiers

If your an advanced skier then go off-piste Wink
Skiing hundreds of km of piste is boring anyway... ski the black a dozen times at Challin Valog setting your limits tighter and tighter, until you can descend the right hand side (steepest) in a corridor of 2 metres... that gets the heart pumping Razz

re: Skiing in Bansko

Skiing in BANSKO is to be banned , this is due to all the skiers making the lift queues long , standing at the food places not skiing and stopping on run in the middle when its dangerous , so all the snowboarders had a public vote and as oh march 4th 2010 skiers are banned Razz sorry to let you all down ....go watch the footie
