Couple of years ago we had some cracking snow around March / early April and, suffering from depression after realising my Europe Ski time was over - me and the wife decided to hawk around the Northern slopes.....
YAD MOSS : (near Alston - Cumbria) - excellent snow, patches of long grass but a lovely little set up with a full poma ...- good skiing.
ALLENHEADS - (near Nenthead) - 3 rope tows, limited but good for a couple of hours to get it out of your system!

SWINHOPE (Upper Weardale - Durham) - a bit of a dodgy drive to get there(!) but again, amazing to find a fully operating drag in the middle of the dales! Would you believe that when we went there was actually a white-out and they closed the lift!
General Tip - take a shovel as you will sometimes have to dig your car out once you're done!
