Snow New Year

Hi,

Friends and I are looking to book a ski trip over New Year at the Bansko resort.

Can anyone tell me what the snow conditions are like this early in the season?

Thanks
Chloe Very Happy

Very much hit and miss Chloe. Years ago it was always pretty good, but recent history is against it being worth the risk. The season seemed to have moved and the better skiing is now more February/March rather than December/January. But who's to know? You might just find it brilliant - but I would never risk it this early again.

re: Snow New Year

Petes right, very hit and miss, though here in Bansko we do have 220+ snow cannons... Last season was absolutely awesome over Christmas and new year, apart from the crowds.. but struggled in previous years..
Last night was the first heavy frost, sub zero overnight temps, and clear sunny days, lining up for a repeat of last year as the weather was identical, no appreciable rain this summer/autumn, and suddenly, wham ! loads of snow Very Happy heres hoping Wink

Are there snow cannons in Borovets just in case?

re: Snow New Year

Hi Wash,

Yes there are on the Rila slopes and on Yastrebets. As you are beginners, you probably won't be using Yastrebets but there are cannons for the Rila slopes so you will be definitely able to ski as long as temperatures are cold enough for the cannons to work.

Cheers
