Snow cannons lack of use!

If bansko has 44 Technoalpine snow cannons which cover most of the slopes and make the ski season last longer. Why are they not working 24/7 making white gold as currently info on runs open reflect only 4 open! Its mad if you have had to pay for a full lift pass and thats since the season opened!

Any thoughts on why cannons are not working?

if the temperature is not below -1 they wont work maybe

Well -1

Still not good as temp has been well below -1 at night at Bansko - So lets hope they find that switch and turn the buggers on, and open up more than those 4 runs!

Thanks for info on Borovets link managed to look at snow forecast for Bansko and looking better!

First they have no use if temp not below zero and second I believe that most pistes are closed because they are not full yet so why spend money having them open.They will open next week on the 21st or 22nd when they expect loads of tourists mainly from the south (Greece).At least I hope so!!!

Getting a lot colder Friday and onwards lets hope they use them.

yeah definitely, temp has to be around -3 or lower for them to work properly, our instructor was telling us in march, also once the season starts on their official opening day i would reckon that all the slopes will be open.

Im here in Bansko. It has been very mild the last week and when the snow cannons are able to run believe me they are running them. they Are working very hard on the mountain and have been skiing on there since 29th Nov so must be doing something right. The temps are supposed to be dropping quite rapidly over next few days and next week so lets hope the snow will come and the cannons are running.

Snow cannons can only operate from temps between -3º and - 10º. Any warmer and the water will not form snow-like crystals and any colder would just form ice.

It's not a question of just turn them on and hey presto - snow
