STRONG WIND CAUSES ELECTRICITY CUTS IN VILLAGES IN BULGARIA
10:28 Wed 24 Jan 2007
Villages in the Shoumen and Montana regions suffer from power cuts because of the strong wind on January 24.
The strong wind is expected to slow down in the evening of January 24, representatives of the State Agency for Civil Defence (SACD) said.
People in Sliven are warned to take precautions against accidents that could result from the wind. The situation is expected to remain unchanged until January 28.
Sliven expects wind with speed of 72 km per hour, SACD said.
Despite the strong wind, temperatures remain unusually high for January. Meteorologists warned that this year Bulgaria will have lower water reserve than usual.
Winter weather conditions are expected by the end of the week but the snowfall and the rain cannot compensate for the lack of precipitation until now.
