Snow in March?

Ay up friendly people,

I've set aside a week in march 2009 (21-28th) to go boarding and am now trying to decide where to go.

I'm trying to find some detailed snow reports to decide where should be fairly reliable. Does anyone know where I can find these for Bulgaria?

Or even better does anyone have any experience of skiing Bulgaria late march? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Ta!!

Dan

Hi Dan,

Was in Pamps last March, no snow and by the end of the week was skiing on grass!!!

Was OK for the first 2 days, then was just a sheet of ice loads of falls and broken bones all around. Then you could see large patches of grass/dirt.

Pamps was great though and we're going back next week!! he he

Your choice would be Bansko or Borovets. Pamps is normally closed by then. The snow in Bansko last year at that time was fantastic.

I am flying out to Borovets on the 7th March. I asked this question a few weeks back. Im assured the snow will be fine.

Im boarding as well. Go for it, it will be good because the slopes will be a little quieter then as well.

re: Snow in March?

Once they get a reasonable snowfall in Bansko (which they have got now, as all runs are open) they can keep all the runs open later in the season because of all the snow cannons they have. If you look at Bansko on Google earth, there is a photo of the Ski road home with snow in May/June (This was a once off ocassion during testing of their appliances)

re: Snow in March?

Went last week of March last year to Bansko and had a fantastic week - no snow in resort but you travel by cable car up the mountain each day and the snow was good - a bit mushy around the bars but further up the moutain it was really good.
Bansko resort had plenty of restaurants and bars, bowling alley and most of the better hotels and apts have swimming pools. Transfer is about 31/2 hours from airport but a beautiful drive.
