Snowblades

Hi all,

Is there any snow.... no no only kidding! Cool

I'm a really average skiier, only just started going down black runs and they still scare me!

I have bought a set of my own skis this year so this should make life easier but I have a chance to buy some snowblades with fixed bindings and wonder...

(a) What is the difference (apart from the obvious weight)
(b) What is bad about them?

Many thanks for any help.
Mark

re: Snowblades

They are brilliant!! Good fun but watch where you put your weight. Keep your weight central / forward you're fine. Just a little too far back and you'll be on your back before you know it. Try to keep to groomed slopes as bumps can make your balance go (they are not as forgiving as long skis). All this aside, we find them fun as you have no poles which makes tows easier but if you have fixed bindings remember to get your legs out of the way when you fall to avoid injury.
If you have time ...

If you have time try them out at an indoor slope - we use Castleford.

re: Snowblades

I've used them for around 6 six and won't go back to skis - ever! , i find the salomon 99 (minimax) the best of all the blades, I've tried loads of diffrent pairs and got a new pair on enbay for £90 - delivered last Jan.

Watch out for the deep snow as you may find you'll sink quicker than skis, keep them locked at all times bar when you've actually got them on your boots as I've had two pairs nicked - not great when your at the top of the hill.

noticed that Salomon now do a 120cm blade and include bindings in the new range - not sure they are needed as you normally lash the blades to your ankle for the security of other skiers - a loose blade will be lethal! the tip with blades is to lay over if it's going a litle pear shaped or pull a 180 turn!

re: Snowblades

Blades are the best thing since chocolate brandy!!
No poles to loose, small and light and you won't loose them on the chair lift! I was forced to wear normal skiis last year because I had lessons again after 5 years of mahem on my blades and it wasn't anywhere as much fun. I'm back in Borovets on the 27th with blades and no lessons, only an internediate hubby to tow around and torture on the blacks. Watch out BG i'm coming back!

re: Snowblades

I'm a looooooong way from an indoor slope but we have an outdoor (mat type) slope in Plymouth which is close. Is it worth trying them out on here first?
