I will be skiing (my pack includes morning and afternoon lessons), but my 2 just-14yo boys are boarders.
The snowboard pack only provides morning lessons which leaves the afternoon free. Will they be 'safe' going on the runs in the afternoons by themselves - they have boarded twice before so have some experience, they are well aware of the ski code, also they are (generally) fairly sensible and will have a mobile phone with them. Should I try to find them a private instructor/guide to accompany them in the afternoons? I can't ski with them as I am a green-run-gal, maybe blue at best, and they want to launch themselves down the steepest slopes!! Or will they meet up with other boarders and go off in a group?
Anyone who knows what snowboarders get up to in the afternoons please reply!
yes your phones will work out there but very expensive I wouldnt let my two 14 years olds have a mobile while abroad!!!!!!! (if I had two 14 year olds that is). Try and get (borrow) some two way radios a lot cheaper and they cant run up a huge bill sending photo messages to there mates!

which resort are you going to?

reason I ask resorts is I have been to pamps and Bansko to be honest in pamps I would say they might be ok, In bansko lot harder to follow runs and would say easier to get lost. If you are in pamps go to the ski shack and he will help you out with private leasons. In Bansko I know some people last year payed around £30 all day for two of the. hope this helps
you may find they just hang around with the people in their class at the end of the day, this tends to happen.
We are going to Pamporovo - and it's good you say it's not so easy to get lost there, that is what I worried about most. I was hoping they might be able to hang around with 'classmates' at the end of the morning, as I don't know how easy it will be for me to meet up with them for lunch. We've only ever skiied before (and not in bulgaria) with a large group so there was always someone in charge of them at the end of a session to make sure they had lunch or got back to the ...
Thanks Sam.

This time they will have to be independent.
I'm not worried about them with a mobile - we have travelled quite a bit and they know only to use them in an emergency, when lost etc. They have both been caught out in the past and it has cost them their pocket money for some months! I load some credit on the phones for emergencies, better safe than sorry if they do get lost or accidentally go off piste or get hurt.
That reminds me of another question on which I may start a new thread - will the E111 become valid on Jan 1st?
its not an E111 any more cant remeber waht its called, not sure about it to be honest you could ask a travel agent although they might know less then everyone on here.
The best advice i've got off this boardlast year was to get bulgarian sim cards for our phones whilst there, they are very cheap, just make sure your phones are un-locked ( accept any network) as for your sons snowboarding in pamps, dont worry they'll be safe and have a Ball.
