Snowboarding - protective gear

I am booked on a beginners snowboarding package in Borovets this Saturday and someone told me tonight I should get wrist and knee guards. Is this recommended? I do have a bit of a history of breaking my wrists!!
Thanks

Bring your skateboard!!
It maybe useful to strengthen the wrists with tubagrip bandage if they are weak. Good strong salopettes will suffice for the knees and remember fall backwards.
Have fun it could be worse. You could be going to Pamporovo!

Wrist guards are a definate must, they'll ensure that you get the most out of your holiday. if you can't get proper snowboarding ones you can pick up skateboard wirst guards which will do the job. Just make sure that you can still get your gloves on over the top of them. Have fun.

pipa.
another piece of gear which my daughter recomends is padded pants. As when you fall on butt you can bruise your coxyx, or better still come over to the dark side get some skis. Very Happy

I would definately by padded pants, I fractured my coccyx the first time I tried boarding, couldn't move for 2 weeks. Also have you considered a helmet I will be taking one next time as I had a fall and really banged my head.

Yep. Wrist guards, impact shorts and a helmet are a must. Knee pads are handy for learning too, as it's all too east to catch a toe-edge when you're getting used to how the board behaves. Expect icy conditions in the mornings, but it should soften up nicely through the day which makes it a bit more forgiving for learners.

Good luck.

My partner used padded pants and on the second day others in his group bought them as well. with the snow conditions a bit on the hard side in the morning they all said it was much gentler on the rear and hips. we were in pamps and you could buy them there between 50 and 100 lev. (£20 and £40 approx) maybe cheaper on ebay.

My teenage boys are now good intermediate snowboarders. Their older sister has boarded twice but is still a novice - she can glide gracefully down (feathering) but cannot really turn.

The boys have always worn helmets, she refuses to on grounds of coolness.

However she has broken BOTH wrists in one fall, and one boy broke a wrist over New Year in Pamporovo. The other boy could barely walk for several days after bruising his coccyx on a dry slope.

ALL THREE have sworn to wear wrist ...

ALL THREE have sworn to wear wrist guards in future, though I don't think they will go for padded pants!
