Even more so if you are a beginner. Don't let people tell you they are not cool. More and more people wear them these days and you can pick up good helmets for very little. Before 2000 I thought only prats or pros wore helmets, then I fractured my skull. Now I wouldn't ski without one.
As a beginner, you fall over more often, but you are (generally) not going that fast. The more often you fall over, the more chance you have of a bad injury.
As you progress, and your confidence gets the better of you, you get faster. You fall over less often. Because you are going faster, when you do fall over (you definitly will) the injuries will be more severe.
There is also the added hazard of other skiers. Just like driving, its never your fault!!!
Moral of the story - ...

definitely get yourself a helmet. there's loads out there, so you're bound to find one that you like. what people are saying is correct; you'll fall over more as a beginner than as an advanced boarder, but it hurts like hell whatever speed you're going at. its just not worth the risk.
Yup more and more people are wearing them... I decided to take the plunge this year and buy one.. after a mate talked me into it... there was a 'too cool for school' mentality regarding wearing them, but it seems to be going now which is good news.
Definitely get one. My son is still nursing a concussion 8 days after falling on the dry slope. He WAS wearing a helmet, so it could have been much worse if he hadn't.
