Snowboarding children

We are looking to go to Bansko as a family in March this year.
My son is 11 years old and wantst o go snowboarding but it looks like you can only have lessons if you are 13 or over.
Has anyone had any experience of snowboarding for children in Bulgaria. Maybe we could just hire the equipment and teach him oursleves ?
Most other resorts in Europe (e.g. France) start at 10.
