Sofia 2014 Launches Mini Bid Book Online
The Sofia bid committee for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games has launched its IOC questionnaire response in the form of a mini bid book online.
Sofia's theme published on the committee's Web site (HERE [in English]) Wednesday runs under the title "Olympic Heights". It proposes to hold the Games from February 10-26, 2014 which would put the opening ceremonies on a Monday and the closing ceremonies on a Wednesday.
The Bulgarian city is the fifth of seven bid cities to make their dossier public.
The Sofia 2014 project has solid government backing and the budget for the bid campaign is USD 13 M. The bid committee expects that the Olympic Games committee will generate USD 443 M in revenue.
The bid committee plans to keep the Games costs low by building six temporary venues, mostly for the skiing events but will still need to construct four new permanent venues.
Additionally, they propose the construction of over 9000 hotel rooms to reach a total of about 28,000 rooms in the Games' vicinity.
