Sofia Airport

Is there anyone in Sofia at the moment who can update me on if the airport is open and flights are landing? We're supposed to be landing tomorrow at 20:45 and transferring to Borovets. A taxi is usually cheep for this but if we have to land in Varna etc then it's going to cost a fortune!
Also, does anyone know the best way to get to Borovets if the worst comes to the worst and we can't land at Sofia?
Thanks

re: Sofia Airport

you can check the situation at the webpage of sofia airport (google it). The fog is supposed to be clearing, but its pretty grim at the moment. In theory, the airline is obliged to take you to your destination, which means they should not abandon you at Varna but put you on a chartered bus and take you to Sofia. In reality, if you are on a package tour they will probably abandon you, in which case you can only complain to IATA and possibly the EU. In any event, if you can't stomach the ...

In any event, if you can't stomach the cost of a taxi from Varna, get the bus. You're going to lose the best part of a day skiing, but that's what happens why you try and do a vacation on the cheap.

re: Sofia Airport

ok cheers, not trying to be cheap but have a house in Borovets so always go over flight only and then get a cab.
Am going to be gutted if we don't land at Sofia but as we're flying sheduled flight i think it won't take off in England if we can't land at Sofia. We've just checked in on line so looks ok at the moment.

re: Sofia Airport

If you're scheduled, then you'll be fine as they'll bus you to Sofia from wherever you have to land. If you're with Balkan, you'll suffer! Looks reasonably clear from my window but the airport is in a dip so really attracts the fog.

re: Sofia Airport

hi, we are currently in Borovets and our flight on 22nd was diverted to Plovdiv due to the bad fog. We had to wait around an hour but the coaches came and picked us up and it only took 1 hour more than the original trip from Sofia! So dont worry, you wont be abandoned and im sure it wont cost much more for a taxi! Snow is great here!Have a nice holiday!
