Have a look on mappy.com very good and also gives an idea of travel costs.

I used HBB Travel. Very timely. Took just over 2 hours in minibus. 150euro return between 4 of us.. Smile

Thanks - we have actually booked a hire minivan. I was hoping someone could provide precise directions as I'm struggling with sites like mappy.com, BGmaps.com and google maps! It may just be me but any help would be appreciated.

Directions are useless unless you can read bulgarian alphabet to follow road signs. I cant help there but TomTom is the answer. My Dad drove last month using his. Just got the maps.

re: Sofia to Bansko

E-mail me, i will copy route, the best route to my mind, and mail it back. Major works on Zsar Boris III at mo, huge traffic jams heading up to E79. What time are you getting in ?? the weekends can be quieter though. The only real problem is Sofia, once on E79 its a doddle (apart from drivers !!!)

re: Sofia to Bansko

Buy some actual hard copy maps or get Eastern European maps for your Tomtom.

With tfr prices now at E150 rtn a hire car for a week (budget) is very similar but + fuel but it means you can explore the area while your there too.

E150 with the current exchange rate is £££ ouch.

Dont forget your x-ray specs. They are all the rage in Bulgaria. You can see through big lorries through hills and around bends. They are great,
