Unfortunately I couldn't convince the inlaws to go to Bulgaria due to travel time. Decided on soll but the snow records a little patchy. Anyone have any thoughts on what snow conditions will be like come march? Can't believe I'm having to miss out on the best conditions ever in Bulgaria.
Soll is ok, bit like Benidorm on ice... linked to a big system, including Kitzbuhal and Kirchburg... Snow record should not be an issue this season, big snow everywhere... I have had some good weeks in Soll, but that was many years ago and errrrr, things were a bit cheaper (24 Shilling to the £)
It had the reputation for attracting large groups of lads and lasses, lots of drunken Brits, but likely that has changed, its still Austria, and in that typically Alpine, but dunno what prices are like now, was in Zell am See a couple of years ago and that was a little pricey, beautiful though, and run perfectly.....
Nice one Pete, a fantastic area, and with good snow, great skiing... Typically Austrian, great service, food etc and obviously, Weissbeer
I had an instructor colleague/friend (Austrian) whose parents owned the hotel that the main cablecar arrives at on the top of the mountain, spent a great Christmas and new year there one year, and have visited many times since... Can be a little pricey, especially on the top of the mountain, but the town can be a lot better, and there are some great bars and restaurants, give my love to the `Crazy Daisy', used to be awesome, but i think it has gone through a bit of a facelift, and the large Austrian bar in the square, can't remember the name, something like Grossliche (big lick ???), the Grand Hotel is worth a visit as well, right on the lake, real posh, we were there for Wens birthday a few years ago... Definitely got to ski up on Kaprun, the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, and maybe get over to Saalbach and Hinterglem... Its maybe one of my most favourite areas, and if i had loads of money i would live there tomorrow
Sounds great Steve C - thanks for the info. Hopefully we can catch up sometime and talk about it. We are hoping to have a Meet in the UK again sometime soon. Would be great if you and Wendy could be there, haven't seen you for ages - nor the little beaut.
