For those of you with your own skis and boots who may struggle with packing and humping a load of bags around, give this a thought.
Angie and I, although both skiers have our own snowboard bags. In these we can get our skis, boots, helmets and ALL our ski gear, shoes and toiletories, leaving our general luggage free for just clothes. Never once in about 6 years of using these bags have they been weighed or searched.

god you have done well, clearly states on our tickets you cant pack anything else in ski bag other than skis, of course we will be taking full notice of that.
On a similar note gotta tell you about our experience flying with Easyjet this weekend.
Me and hubby, no skis but we put our boots in a big holdall with ski gear. Then normal clothes in another bag.
At this point i must mention my husband had NO hand luggage. I just had a small rucksack which contained a book and passports etc. Please bear in mind you are allowed 5 kilos of hand luggage per person (a small suitcase).
Checked in 1st bag, containing boots, all ok. 2nd bag ...

Checked in 1st bag, containing boots, all ok. 2nd bag weighed 21.8kg, limit is 20kg! Check in girl said we had to take some thing out of bag and put it in my rucksack, please remember this is a small rucksack, even too small to get a jumper in!
Opened holdall nothing really of any weight to be found. She asked if there were any shoes in it. So we found a pair of trainers...... she made us remove ONE shoe and squeeze it into my diddy rucksack .......1BLOODY SHOE. And we still had an 8 kilo hand luggage allowance unused!!
Have to say these were Geneva airport staff contracted by Easyjet.........PATHETIC!
Easyjet are notorious for excess baggage charges. That's how they make their money and upset a lot of people in doing so. We took a load of clothes over via Easyjet for some orphans in Bulgaria 3 years ago, and they charged us for excess baggage. When we explained what it was for they didn't want to know. They seemed even proud to say they even charge our military boys excess if their standard kit is overweight.
That is so true, if the milatary travel anywhere ryanair or easyjet they get charged, yet virgin seem to wavier as long as not too much over. low cost airlines, are onlt low cost if you have nothing to take with you.
on a positive note i must 'big up' BA weve been loads of times and the most we had was 70kg yes that right 70kg over weight, on an xmas flight, due to the queues we were taken to business check in (young children in tow) and the check in lady said as its xmas she wouldnt charge us!!!!!!!! now imagine that on squeezy, let alone Ryan rip off air
I'm doing BA to Sofia when we come over in Feb, but coming back with Air Bulgaria, bring my own ski's but haven't worked out if it's included or not yet.
BA seems to just say that the skis are included in your total weight, which mens it'll be miles over
"low cost airlines, are onlt low cost if you have nothing to take with you"
Well, I'd say rather that low cost are not flexible with the rules, and are not low cost if you break them. It's fair enough in my opinion - otherwise they wouldn't be able to offer the low prices they do. Maybe they should be clearer that there will be no flexibility when you book I guess... but I think people should expect things like this when some people on your flight will have paid £25 for the ticket!

On another note though - what on earth do you lot take with you???
I only ever take hand luggage even for a week skiing. My board is already in bg, but if going somewhere else then between hand luggage and a few things in my board bag I'd have enough for 2 people! And it's not just me being a skank (honest! I even take clean undies for every day! ) - my girlfriend is the same. You have hold luggage as well and you're STILL struggling to get under the weight allowance?
