Hi Board, I know a few of the regular posters on the board are Bulgarian or can at least speak the lingo. My wife is coeliac, which means she cannot tolerate gluten. Can anyone advise what the bulgarian for "flour","wheat" and "gluten" is?
You would be amazed at the amount of foods which have gluten as an additive, ice cream for example! Any help would greatly appreciated.
Group of about 20 Scots arriving at the Flora on the 25th for our 3rd "Skiing Doo", c ya there.
Galina Dafova says not to eat breaded stuff like breaded cheese or chiken bites, to be very carefull with the soups in Bg as we put flour in it and if she is alergic she should eat mainly grilled meat , steamed vegetables but not no minced meat as meat balls
Flour- brashno
wheat - pshenitsa, zarneni hrani
gluten is gluten
A few years ago I went to Bulgaria with my son who was then 13 and very gluten-intolerant.
I took a card which I ordered from www.dietarycard.com for about £5. We could choose the wording and the translations were correct. You do need to be very careful with doing your own translations as there can be errors between the pronunciation and the written word, especially when using a different alphabet as well.

We had no problems when showing this card, and we did take a loaf of bread, packet of cereal and a pack of G/F spaghetti though we didn't actually need it. Also took oatcakes and G/F cookies to snack on. He ate steaks and meat skewers with rice and potatoes.
Since then my son has had homeopathic treatment and seems to be OK now or maybe he has just grown out of it. Good luck and have a great ski trip, hope this helps a bit.
Hi Guys, just to report that all went very, thanks to your help. The Bulgarian cards were very well received. In fact, the restaraunts were a lot more helpful and recpetive than most of our "sophisticated" places back home.
