Lift passes will be at a single price in all winter resorts. We even failed to fix Stoichkov with a vacant room, says Peter Popangelov
The most successful Bulgarian ski racer for all times Pavel Popangelov was appointed the executive director of "Borosport" AD 2 weeks ago. The company deals with the running and keeping of the resort. After Popangelov terminated his sports career, he worked as a ski trainer for several years. Later he started an own business and built up a hotel in Borovets. The hotel has accommodated tourists for 10 years now.
- Mr. Popangelov, how many tourists are expected to visit Borovets this year?
- According to the latest information, the number of the tourists will be by 10-20% bigger compared to their last year's number.
- Are there such foreign tourists who come to Borovets only to go in for skiing?
- Borovets is still the favourite winter resort for the tourists from England, Ireland and Germany. In my opinion, this, what they like most in the resort is the atmosphere and also the nice skiing tracks. Borovets offers skiing tracks in a big range - from tracks for beginners to tracks for skiers who are nearly as good as racers.
- Do you expect that Borovets will be completely booked up by foreigners for the New Year?
- Yes, of course. At this time of the year the resort is mainly full with guests from abroad. All places are fully booked till January, 4. A few days ago we even failed to accommodate Hristo Stoichkov.
- Are there new skiing facilities in Borovets?
- There are two new 4-seat lifts with a capacity to take up 2,400 people per hour.
- Will there be any change in the prices of the daily passes for the use of the sports facilities?
- The idea is that the prices in all winter resorts be equalized, which means that the daily passes in Borovets will also go up in price a little. They will probably reach about 27-28 BGN.
- What is the thing that makes Borovets unique?
- This is the closeness of the tracks to the lifts. The cabin lift is only 50 meter away from Samokov hotel and some 150 meters from Rila hotel. And the thing that the resort is only 70 kilometers away from Sofia. The resort offers and facilities for night skiing at a price 3 times cheaper than the daily pass, which is also a big advantage.
- How much are the investments made in Borovets so far?
- The two lifts and the snow-making cost nearly 20 million BGN. - New 4-seat chair lifts are planned to be built up next year.
