To Italians, it is quite more convenient to ski in Vitosha Mountain or in Borovets winter resort, rather than in the Alps. A flight from Rome to Sofia lasts an hour and a half and to the ski-tracks in the Alps - 7 hours, said Italy's Ambassador to this country Gian Batista Campagnola. Italian companies are interested to invest in winter tourism in Bulgaria, as well as in balneological and rural tourisms, said a top official from the Italian embassy in this country. Some 20 Italian companies are expected next month in Bulgaria to attend a seminar on the opportunities to invest in these three fields. Representatives of 100 Bulgarian businesses will also take part in the seminar. The Super Borovets project of the development of the winter resort will be presented at the seminar.
In Bansko town 10 new hotels are expected to open doors by December 1, the start of the winter season, with a five-crown one from the Kempinski chain as the most luxurious of them. This is the first hotel of such a high class in the winter resort. Bansko mayor Alexander Kravarov said that two lifts are slated to start operating in winter 2004-05.
