Europe to Replace St. Valentine with St. Trifon - the Pruner
The Bulgarians are celebrating today one holiday which they missed to mark years ago and about which existence some of them didn't even know - St. Valentine's day. In Europe, they have been openly murmuring against it for several years now. They maintain that the commercialization of February, 14 excelled even this of Christmas. Bulgaria and the Bulgarians have no such problems. In Bulgaria, the separation of February, 14 goes in another line - the young Bulgarians pay their tribute of respect to united Europe, buying all sort of things connected with St. Valentine's day. While the senior Bulgarian give their nostalgic preferences to the years when they celebrated St. Trifon - the Pruner's day for lack of any other holiday at that time. Nobody is complaining of commercialization - everyone buys what is at their hearts or depending on what they can afford. There is no threat of depressions or attacks from belligerent feminists, for everyone can join any of the two celebrating groups, depending on what he is fond of. As it appears, the number of the "hearts" and "I Love You's" in Bulgaria on St. Valentine's day increases directly proportional to the number of the European citizens who are sick and tired of St. Valentine's day. If the Europeans are so much against their own holiday, we can offer them a barter - we give them St. Trifon - the Pruner's day against St. Valentine's day. Let's hope that the patron of the people in love will bring Bulgaria closer to the so called civilized choice - the EU. While the Europeans may draw closer to each other with the help of the Day of wine, instead of moaning and groaning in the Internet that St. Valentine's day made them feel depressed.
