If the guy had a n e111 or what ever they are called now he would have at least got some free medical attention (what standard not sure, but free) & as Experience was trying to say was that a tour operator has a duty of care for their clients as they have arranged the whole package. BA are not a tour operator if you by flights. They are just an expensive version of sleazyjet & the rest.

& as for tour op's Balkan have Man 10/1/09 £169pp although I have enough snow in my garden at the moment & have just found out that you can stand on a sledge & use it like a snowboard. But be prepared to fall off. Wink no brocken pelvis though.

I think what from Experience is trying to get at with regards to charter flights is that they are rarely cancelled. I imagine this is because the aircraft operator does not want to lose the custom of a mojor tour operator, individual passengers on scheduled flights certainly get a rough deal in these circumstances. Of course Thomson/Thomas Cook have found a way round it by running their own aircraft. There should be far better protection for passengers on scheduled flights, the stories of families being told they will get a refund and then being asked for hundreds of pounds for a seat on an alternative flight is criminal, airlines have been hiding behind act of god and force majeur! for too long and need to be more accountable.

Steve C hope the guy gets some safe and without too much pain, sorry to hear about your son too, there are apparently thousands of people in the UK who have been affected by the weather here!!

Sad Sad Sad

re: Tale of woe !

From Experience - most charter companies only run their ski flights on Sat or Sun. If somebody on a package holiday needs to return home midweek they can't as there is no way they will charter another aircraft for them.

Whether you organise your own travel or go with a package you must have good insurance so if the worst happens a good insurance company will charter an air ambulance to get you home.
That is from experience....

Powderseeking Phil....Do you expect Wizzair would release the following statement if they were going up the creek?:

Dear passengers,

Thank you for choosing to fly with Wizz Air in 2009. It has been a very successful year with the continued growth of our business and the strengthening of our overall market leadership in Central and Eastern Europe.

We opened 2 new bases, launched 67 new routes and carried 7.8 million passengers, 30% more than last year!

Unfortunately we have a bank deficit of £418 million approx, and the likelyhood of our planes being grounded and eventually being seized by the banks is quiet high.

2010 will be equally exciting with the arrival of 7 secondhand aircrafts from the old East German Airforce. These craft will be on standby to replace our current fleet when they are taken from us.

Don't forget to check wizzair.com regularly to see the progress of the liquidator.

Please ensure you take out substancial travel insurance to cover all eventualities when flying with us.

We wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and look forward to welcoming you onboard in the near future.
