The More Serious Side To All This Snow

Whilst we all welcome the heavy snow that allows us to enjoy our beloved sport, there is a far more serious side to all this weather - flooding. 9 people have already lost their lives as a result of the floods and several villages in Southern Bulgaria have had to be evacuated. Zlatograv and Smoylan have already been hard hit, and when the thaw begins lets hope and pray that it is slow and prolonged, as any rapid thaw will see millions of gallons of water flow down the mountains and the ...

Zlatograv and Smoylan have already been hard hit, and when the thaw begins lets hope and pray that it is slow and prolonged, as any rapid thaw will see millions of gallons of water flow down the mountains and the results could prove absolutely catastrophic to the Bulgarians.

Lets all hope and pray that doesn't happen.

The artificila dams/lakes are almost 2000 and most of them apart of the big ones are privatly owned and the daily care for clearing the exits early warning and control of the levels in them is non existent.
The blame of the last flooding is because a dam wall on one of then bursted because for years the problem with the cracked wall was brushed aside and the ball was trhown around.
The only hope is that the lakes at the moment have few weeks extention because of the weather been very cold ...

The blame of the last flooding is because a dam wall on one of then bursted because for years the problem with the cracked wall was brushed aside and the ball was trhown around.
The only hope is that the lakes at the moment have few weeks extention because of the weather been very cold so no drastic accumulation for this month of so.
There is a whole new ball game when the melting start irreversibly.
Levels rise go over the walls and pray for the people down along the river below the walls.
Tricky and unpredictable.
Facts are showing that since the last Deaths in vollage of Kaloian and now in village of Bisser nothing has been changed.
The snow in the montains will last well into April until March in the villages surrounding the mountain ranges.
That's good for skiers providing they keep open the resort for longer.
But that option I don't think will happen because there is no resort in the alps which would extend beyond the listed end day because is not viable to keep it running with only few punters.
We can only hope that the end date will be honoured and not skipped like the last good few seasons.
Forecast and my guess is that because the season is not (from the point of viue of the people working in the resort is just average because tourist this season have WIDE choice to fo to resorts everywhere the BG resorts will shut eighter on the day or as predicted early. .
This season I feel sorry for all of skiers booked USA and Canada on the knowledge the snow cover is reliable so it is worth paying extra travel further and getting the snow.
This season is brilliant to try places where you would not go other years under the fear that they are too low too snowless etc.
I bet the qinter winners (temperaly will be smaller places -for example Beklemeto near troyan, Ribaritsa near Teteven,Kom near Berkovitsa, Senkovo near Razlog etc samples given only with BG smaller ski places.
All of those are full and wise skiers can do what they love-skiing and snowboarding at the fraction of the lift pass price.
Search do a little home work and benefit from this once in a lifetime opportunity to ski left right and center.
This year the snow is laughing at this wise decision makers.
