The Real Problem with Pamporovo that can't be changed

OK, the snow is a real problem that we can't change although if the pistes were free of stones etc and covered in grass that would make a significant difference.

The REAL problem with Pamporovo is one that the tourist doesn't see. We all notice the exceptionally high prices. We are all aware that we are being herded like sheep into certain restaurants. The question is WHY? This is what cannot be changed.

Ski Instructors earn £50 per week. They get a comission for taking you to restaurants that they cannot afford to lose. In fact they have in the past been under orders to do so or would be sacked on the spot. How many of your old friends are not there this season?

There is no competition because ski schools other than the 'company' one are charged excessive rates for lift passes and the big bosses also own most of the restaurants on the mountain and night clubs in the resort.

Want to know why your meal or drink is so expensive... The big bosses 'mafia' reportedly charged 50,000 euro for the three month lease of Dak's night club 2 years ago and its getting worse. God knows what the rent is for every other outlet in the resortCrying

There's more than that wrong with the resort, I found it to be a poor relation of the Western European Resorts, In fact, a dump. No snow cannons, dangerous conditions, poor instruction, shoddy equipment....I could go on... My rental ski's were stolen my third day and I was made to feel like a criminal. I was threatened with police and arrest. Another holiday maker informed me it's a regular occurence and simply a scam to get you to claim off your insurance so they get to replace sub-standard ...

I pity the poor people who have their first ski experience here and think it's typical.

Never had a problem with the instruction, ours have always been great.

It is a shame about the snow.

Can't believe they charded 50k for Dak's, it's no wonder prices are high and they will increase greatly i think after this year as not many people are saying they'll go back.

We will go pack to Pamps but it will be a last minue job when there is adequete coverage. We do love Pamps but obviously book a ski hol not for the apres alone!

Off to Bansko on sun for a change and we're ...

IF the above is true then tourists will vote with their feet.

Everywhere will struggle in the drepression - if Pamps wants to survive then they need repeat custom & good reviews to draw in new trade.

Pamps has to my view a few bad points, 3 years of dire snow and its amazing this year given the dump everywhere has had.
Long way from the airports
Small resort - which is a plus too
Not many runs - ok for a small resort
Low height so suffers with bad snow - climate change could ...

VFM - is it? Other people posting as per above is worrying.

Come on Pamps business sort it out dont devalue the Pamps brand.
