The Snowdrop

As it's a bit quiet, so I thought it may be time for another attempt at a poem.......... so here goes.

THE SNOWDROP

A snowdrop stirs beneath the earth
To start it's climb to virgin birth
Many days of northern toil
To see what lies beyond the soil.
Roots grow stronger every day
To hold her straight when she may sway
In breezes that could freeze a fire
She makes the journey to get higher.

For nine long months she waits her time

THE SNOWDROP

A snowdrop stirs beneath the earth
To start it's climb to virgin birth
Many days of northern toil
To see what lies beyond the soil.
Roots grow stronger every day
To hold her straight when she may sway
In breezes that could freeze a fire
She makes the journey to get higher.

For nine long months she waits her time
To see the light begin to shine
On pastures she saw long ago
All cold and damp and white with snow.
Nature gave her the responsibility
To greet the winters pure tranquility
The messenger to tell mankind
Peace on earth isn't hard to find.

The day has come, her heart a flutter
She prays knowone will pick or cut her
She breaks the soil and feels the light
And smiles at it with sheer delight
A snowdrops smile that is unique
Adorns the morning on the peak
Of a distant mountain far away
She crys a tear....for she can't stay.

In days to come she'll do her best
To shine each day and never rest
Till spring takes over and full of guilt
She starts to tire and then to wilt.
No more to play with fox and mole
And keep the rabbit in control,
Alas tis time, the last goodbyes
Then all alone.....THE SNOWDROP dies.

re: The Snowdrop

That's a lovely poem, but can we have a more cheerful one next time?

re: The Snowdrop

Unfortunately I struggle with poetry, I have a favourite one that I might put in, if I remember when I get a chance.

re: The Snowdrop

This is a favourite - I always take it on Guide camp and walking holidays as a talisman.

Weather Poetry with a smile

It rained and rained and rained and rained,
The average was well maintained;
And when our fields were simply bogs,
It started raining cats and dogs.
After a drought of half an hour,
There came a most refreshing shower;
And then the queerest thing of all,
A gentle rain began to fall.

Next day 'twas pretty fairly dry,
Save for a deluge from the sky.

This wetted people to the skin,
But after that the rain set in.
We wondered what's the next we'd get,
As sure as fate we got more wet.
But soon we'll have a change again,
And we shall have..... A drop of rain
